I had many offers to write this book but didn’t like what people were saying. They wanted a book about technology, about digital natives and so on.
I wanted to tell young people’s story and that’s why I turned the offers down.
It’s a story that’s as old as the company mobileYouth. We (Josh Dhaliwal & I) founded that company back in 2001. In those years we’ve collected many stories about how youth use mobile phones in unique and revealing ways but these weren’t stories about technology and how they were “always connected”.
Having already published a few books myself I knew that a better story could be told. In fact, those stories of “Gen C” were simply myths. The reveal story of how youth were using mobile phones to reclaim social space that was lost to them was far more fascinating and it’s one that connected young people in places as diverse as Saudi Arabia, Tokyo and Jakarta.
It’s work in progress. In the meantime, check out some of my other books.
